Old cars, and more, are always welcome
Your diesel is no longer allowed into the low-emission zone. Or your petrol car is just that bit too old and the trade-in value disappoints. A car that has reached the end of its life here can start a new one in Ukraine. There is no low-emission zone there, and a car written off here becomes a way to deliver food, evacuate people or drive someone to a hospital. We have the luxury of discarding a car because the rules changed. Over there, anything that drives gets used. A car no longer welcome in our city centres runs there over poor roads to villages that no longer have any public transport.

We bring Ukraine what they need, and that is more than cars alone. Medical supplies, IT, power generation. But cars are very much part of it.

So far we have driven more than 250 of them over ourselves. Always fully loaded with relief supplies, because driving an empty car east is a waste of space. That was on top of the many truckloads of supplies we arranged.

We drive them ourselves. That is deliberate: you see where the goods end up and you hear what is needed next.

What we are looking for
An estate, a saloon. A van or a small van. A 4WD. A car. Vehicles that fetch little on trade-in and that are sometimes no longer allowed into the low-emission zone.

We do ask two things:

• a valid MOT, and
• mechanically sound. Reliability helps more than luxury out there.

It is nearly 2,000 kilometres to eastern Ukraine. There is no dealer along the way to check something over, and it has to keep working during an evacuation or a run to a hospital.

What you get in return
Besides a good feeling: Aid to Ukraine is a Dutch public benefit organisation (ANBI). You donate the car at market value, and within the tax rules that amount is deductible. The RSIN number you need for your tax return is 866916556.

We handle the transfer and the paperwork. And we drive it to Ukraine ourselves.
